About Woodland Burial
Woodland Burial - Woodland graves offer an alternative natural
form of burial in which the graves will remain forever in a newly created
wood. The area has been planned to create a traditional woodland,
providing environmental benefits and encouraging wild life.
The Burial Place - The woodland burial place is located at
Chyenhal, overlooking the moor, with wonderful views of of West Penwith
and adjacent to Penwith Pets Memorial Gardens, which was established in
1988 providing peace and comfort to all pet owners. .

Now pets and their
owners may be buried together. The burial place has been carefully considered and the grave spaces are
accurately recorded on plans so they are locatable subsequently in the
woodland and undergrowth. Each grave will be prepared to a single
depth and two graves adjoining will be available for partners.
At
the appropriate time of year a tree will be planted in remembrance of the
deceased.

Green Burial Ecological Coffins - In order to ensure that the woodland burial
place remains as natural as possible in every respect, we request that
only bio-degradable coffins be used or wooden coffins made from timber
felled in managed forests and ecologically sound.
The deceased will be accepted for burial in a shroud, cardboard or
homemade coin (to an appropriate design and standard) or in a coffin
purchased from a funeral director, providing it complies to the above
requests. This also applies to a casket containing cremated remains
for interment in this woodland area.
Funeral Arrangements - Penwith Woodland Burial Place is available to
people of all creeds and cultures, traditional or alternative, managed or
D.I.Y funerals.
It is widely believed that personally assisting in all aspects of a
funeral can be a great help in coming to terms with the loss of a loved
one.
Returning To Nature - Woodland burial is not for those people who
require a neat and tidy grave with its traditional headstone, it will be
chosen by those who love birds and wildlife, and wish, that by their death
they can create a woodland for future generations to enjoy.
Maintenance - The burial place will be managed for the
benefit of wildlife. This entails grass mowing at specific times,
promoting various wild flowers, and grazing by sheep. It must be appreciated
that the traditional neat and formal look of cemeteries does not apply to
this burial place.
Memorials - Woodland graves may be reserved by applying to
Penwith Woodland Burial Place and submitting the appropriate fee which
includes the planting of a native tree as a lasting memorial. [back
